Abstract
Stones are found in the parotid and sublingual glands, but they are observed more often in the submaxillary gland.
A 21-year-old Korean student visited to Chosun university hospital on February 2, 1972, with the chief complaints of pain and purulent discharge on the right sublingual region, and painful swelling on the right submaxillary region.
Physical examination of the oral cavity and neck revealed that the right half of the tongue and
right sublingual region were swollen, scanty, light grayish purulent discharge was noted from the right orifice of Wharton¢¥s duct, and a walnut sized, bard mass which was slightly tender by pressure was palpated on the right submaxillary region.
A stony bard material was removed from abscess of the mouth floor by an incision on the right sublingual region, and this measuring 1.2X1.2X0.5 cm proved to be a light yellowish white, hard salivary stone with nodular surface, composed of principally calcium phosphate and small amount of
calcium carbonate and cholesterol.
The lesion was made a favorable response for a complete cure by use of antibiotics and application of local treatment.
